Elementary
MJA follows the academic curriculum prescribed by the Department of Education of the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists. This curriculum is consistent with the program for elementary grades recommended by the State of Michigan.
The curriculum for grades one through six includes subjects in religion, language arts (handwriting, reading, spelling, grammar, composition), science, mathematics, social studies, music, physical education and art. Emphasis is placed on helping students master basic reading, writing, mathematics, and thinking skills.
The primary grades have been designed to help students master basic skills at an individual pace. Ability grouping, rather than strict grade classification will be used to maximize student academic growth. We are motivated by the desire to prepare students, in their first three years of school, to enter the next room with the ability to function at grade level.
The curriculum for grades seven and eight includes Religion, language arts (reading, composition, grammar, spelling), science, mathematics, social studies, music, and physical education. Grades seven and eight are also offered a class in keyboarding. In order to successfully qualify for graduation from grade eight, a student must successfully complete all the subjects in this curriculum.

ASPIRE (Adventist School Preparing Instilling and Redeeming for
Eternity) Academy is a Technology-Mediated Instruction and
Learning elementary school. ASPIRE seeks to do something that is
not readily seen in technology based education programs. ASPIRE
utilizes a Technology Mediated Educational approach that is
interactive, based on live instruction, instant feedback, and is as
similar to a physical classroom experience as possible.
ASPIRE at MJA is a grades 9-11 educational program operated by
the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. As such,
ASPIRE falls under the Michigan Conference Educational Handbook
policies as well as the policies of the Michigan Conference of
Seventh-day Adventists.
Field Trips and Special Programs
Field trips are a part of the extended curriculum. A Consent to Treatment form must be correctly filled out and signed by parent/guardian before a student is permitted to participate in a field trip. In order to minimize the paper work, the school will, in some cases, combine the Consent to Treatment form and the parental approval of the trip. Permission over the phone is not acceptable.
All school rules and regulations apply on field trips unless otherwise advised by the teacher. The school dress code will be followed during field trips unless the nature of the trip warrants alternate attire. Any changes will be made by the teacher and/or administration. A student who comes inappropriately dressed will not be able to participate in the field trip.
There are special programs offered throughout the year. These include, but are not limited to the following:
Outdoor Education - This is a program for grades 5-6. Students spend 4 days at Camp Au Sable under the tutelage of a naturalist. This can be any time during the school year. Dates are assigned after the beginning of school. The cost is usually around $65.00
Share Your Faith Retreat - This is a program for grades 7-8. This event is held at Camp Au Sable in October and runs from Sunday-Wednesday. The charge is usually around $65.00 per student.
Jr. Academy Bible Camp - This is a program for grades 9-10. It is held during a weekend at Camp Au Sable in March. The charge is usually around $65.00 per student.
Gymnastics / Sports / Intramurals - The P.E. Department plans after-school gymnastic and sports practices/intramurals periodically. Notice will be given in ample time so you can make plans for this.
